Sunday Round-Up

Whew, it was a busy week. The lesson I took away? Don’t travel on a Thursday. I spent 9 hours in the car when I should have spent a maximum of 4, all told. I swear every road between me and where I needed to go had been closed, barricaded off and a diversion put in place (or not, as at least two of the blocked roads, out of the 7 I traversed, had no alternate route signposted).

*Sigh*

DIY Craft Home made Autumn Wreath

Anyways, this travesty of a travel situation not withstanding, my weekend has been very chilled. Saturday I crafted a Autumnal-looking wreath for the door using bits and bobs picked up on our walk across the Commons. In the evening, we got dressed up and headed out to see a Burlesque show with The Folly Mixtures and Ivy Paige which was fantastic, very funny and glamorous.

Today has been a baking day as the intermittent rain and grey skies effectively kiboshed our allotment plans.

We made shortcrust pastry and turned it into a Mediterranean influenced tart, with roasted butternut squash, red onions and courgettes gifted by our allotment neighbour. I sprinkled feta cheese over it before popping in the oven and used a balsamic vinegar glaze liberally over the top when we served it up.

Mediterranean Tart

For dessert, as the oven was on and we had a surplus of apples to hand, we whipped up a delicious cinnamon and brown sugar heavy, buttery apple crumble which we served after lunch with some toffee ice cream.

As we were busy in the kitchen anyway, I took the opportunity to turn the other half of the butternut squash I roasted for the tart into a spicy chilli-infused soup for my lunch tomorrow.

Kiddo Blanket

Now, to snuggle up with the cat (who definitely has the right idea, blanket-wise) and read some books – you can check out some of my reviews here on Goodreads.

Friday Favorites: 11th October

Bah. It’s been an awful week. I mean it, truly – no repeats wanted here!

First off, I arrived back from my sojourn in Barcelona. Ahh, 26 degrees, evening strolls, bright lights, beach time and churros. However, back home in England, Autumn has well and truly arrived.

Churros

I took a wander through the park yesterday and the falling leaves, chill in the air and immense amount of jumpers in the shops (I may have browsed the windows a little as I came into town for lunch) left me feeling that new season excitement. That moment was the first good one all week though, as no sooner had I stepped off the plane than I got a head cold. I figured I would shake it off fast, which I did – only to then get food poisoning! Two days later, I have a sore throat. *sigh*

Friday Favorites / Things That Have Kept Me Going This Week!

1. The cat! Gorgeousness incarnate, she has kept me company on the bathroom floor, the sofa and in bed. Yesterday, she even brought me a giant, half dead spider to comfort me in my time of need. It’s the thought that counts.

2. With the cold comes party planning and this dress caught my eye as perfect holiday season wear.

3. My usual hobby of pinning recipes had to go on the back burner this week as I couldn’t deal with looking at food. Instead, I started planning ideas for the contents of gift hampers I fully intend to make this year. Check out my pinboard.

It’s here! I have that Autumn feeling, let the apple cinnamon baking, jumper-snuggling, umbrella-toting season begin.P1040296I was yearning for Summer when the cold and wet moved in, still in the mood for sundresses and salads. Now, my mind is all over the upcoming season – usually the busiest of the year for me. P1040285So, with that in mind I’ve taken some time this weekend to just get my ‘To-Do’ list in order (I love ticking stuff off as I finish each task).P1040290I finished my upholstery project, I’ll get a post up with that next week.P1040310In the meantime I’m pretty much all about the hot chocolate right now, loving this deluxe version from Cafe Chocolata in Tunbridge Wells. They had some seriously good baked potato action in there, along with tea in dainty china cups and saucers. If I had had room, I would have sampled some of the Leonidas chocolates too, but I guess that’s for another day.P1040311
